I also aim to challenge widespread misconceptions. What is often portrayed in the media or observed in cultural practices does not necessarily reflect the essence of Islam. The Quran emphasises that people are defined by their conduct, not by outward appearances or inherited traditions.

The Sunday Times - News Review
My aim is to show that people from diverse cultures and beliefs are not as different as they may seem. At our core, we all rely on the same principles to live in peace and security—shared values that unite rather than divide. When individuals uphold these values, society as a whole benefits.
I believe that when religion—any religion—is set aside from cultural expressions such as dress codes, rituals, and traditions, what remains are enduring moral principles. The Quran highlights these Permanent Values, offering a foundation for ethical and social harmony. Through this perspective, I seek to bring communities together around common standards of justice, integrity, and compassion.
To overcome fear and suspicion in society, these misunderstandings must be addressed thoughtfully and without hostility. By doing so, Islam can be presented as preserved in the Quran, not as a set of rituals and traditions, but as a comprehensive and practical system for building a just and balanced society.

About the Author
Paigham Mustafa has been engaged in the study and research of the Quran since 1988 and has contributed to the print me- dia for over 37 years. His first major work, The Quran: God’s Message to Mankind, was published in 2016, followed by The Divine Blueprint in 2022. He is also the author of How To Be Human, published in 2025. His exegesis of the Quran often challenges traditional readings, offering instead a reasoned and objective analysis of the original text. His works provide essential guidance, helping readers gain a clearer, more in- formed understanding of Islam. This helps address many of the issues that stem from misunderstandings, misinterpreta- tions, and misconceptions.
Paigham Mustafa is a member of The Scholars & Scientists Committee of the International Qur’an Research Association (IQRA) and a trustee of Oxford Institute of British Islam.
